The Museu d´Art de Cerdanyola (MAC) presents a small show in its permanent gallery dedicated to Ismael Smith and the subject of the nude in his work, revealing his most hidden side: his sexual identity and Jewish origins. Nude and Naked offers an overview of the artist´s work based on one of his most common themes, the nude, addressing various issues that relate to sexuality stereotypes and Smith´s personality. The team at El Palomar will provide a counterpoint from the perspective of the queer movement and there will be a series of installations from young emerging artists on display in the museum´s Arc space, establishing a dialogue with the disciplines of this versatile creator (sculpture, illustration, jewellery), as well as highlighting Smith´s most ground-breaking, modern vision.

Free entrance

Gustav Klimt. The Poetry (detail Beethovenfries), 1901-1902 © Belvedere Vienna

This exhibition explores the fascinating dialogue between Gustav Klimt´s work and classical art. A selection of examples from the artist´s oeuvre illustrates a fundamental shift in his understanding of antiquity. Whereas his early work, influenced by Historicism, reveals an interest in the details of classical art, after 1900 he translated the spirit of antiquity into his own formal language. The exhibition illustrates this development through juxtaposing Klimt´s work with classical vase painting and casts of sculptures that inspired the artist.
