A strategic plan to obtain greater Spanish presence in the Asia-Pacific region was decided upon in the Asia-Pacific Framework Plan 2000-2002 approved by the president of the Spanish government in the closing ceremony of the meeting of Spanish ambassadors in Asia that took place in Manila in 2000. As a result of this project, a consortium comprising Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Catalan government and the Barcelona City Council was set up to create Casa Àsia. The company's aim is to promote and undertake projects and activities that will contribute to a better understanding and promote relationships between Spain and countries in the Asia-Pacific region, especially in the fields of government, finance, education and culture.

Casa Àsia is located in the former Baró de Quadras Palace, designed by the architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch and located in Barcelona's Diagonal. Puig worked on the building between 1902 and 1906. It was a large single-dwelling house in which he developed his taste for a neo-Gothic style, which characterised the early years of his career. It is worth highlighting the detailed ornamental work on the building, which is perfectly integrated into the dynamics of the structure's architectural style.
