Stichting "Behoud Nederlandse Jugendstilarchitectuur"

The Stichting 'Behoud Nederlandse Jugendstilarchitectuur' (Foundation for the Preservation of Dutch Art Nouveau  Architecture), established in 2010, is based in the city of Huizen. The importance and unique character of Dutch Art Nouveau architecture has been underestimated in the past. The Foundation's mission is to create a greater awareness of the architecture in a wider public. This will involve co-operating with national and regional museums and archives, local government and private organisations. It is our goal to organise temporary exhibitions together with a number of institutes of national heritage. The board is preparing a travelling exhibition called "Art Nouveau Buildings in the Region". The enormous variety and specific characteristics of Dutch Art Nouveau (of which the Hague is the cradle) will be collected in a richly illustrated reference book which will be on sale at the exhibition. This publication will include illustrations and information of about 1300 buildings in Holland and short biographies of 175 architects.

In order to make these projects possible the Foundation collects different kinds of information, for instance: technical journals, ancient postcards, building plans and so on from the period 1896-1914. Lovers and fans of Art Nouveau architecture in Holland can find our Foundation on the Internet at www.nederlandsejugendstilarchitectuur.nl. On this website we publish news and background information in the section ´In the Spotlight´. For new facts about threatened, saved or demolished buildings see ´Under press´. In the fight to save threatened buildings, the Foundation co-operates with action groups, local historical societies and national institutes.

One of our Foundation's goals is to promote Dutch Art Nouveau architecture abroad. For that reason we joined the Art Nouveau European Route. In the future we want to play an active role in exchanging information with the other members on the subject we all embrace so passionately.
